People Before the Park: The Kootenai and Blackfeet Before Glacier National Park

Step into the worldview of the Kootenai and Blackfeet peoples. For countless years, they made their seasonal rounds in the landscape that is now Glacier National Park. In People Before the Park, the Kootenai and Blackfeet tribes share their traditions, stories, legends, hunting techniques, games and spiritual beliefs. Readers will discover a new respect for the people who were at home in these mountains.

I was fascinated with the book and its structure. The beginning and conclusions were well done and gave everything necessary to be able to digest the content of the sections written by the Kootneai and Blackfeet nations. I was pleased to be able to witness what these cultures presented. Both were very different, but the underlying nature was exactly what I have been longing to learn. This is a book I will re-read.

Now that this is available, I hope it is required for all park staff. Such valuable information.

I read this before taking a trip to Glacier National Park. It was a fascinating look at the customs and lives of the Native Americans who lived in the region.
